Chiclayo is located in northern Peru. The city has a population of about 634,600 while the metropolitan area is approximately 910,255. Chiclayo was founded in 1560 as a rural Indian village by a Spanish priest. Until the 19th century, Chiclayo remained a small city compared to the nearby city of Lambayeque. However, the city of Chiclayo has become a major modern metropolis. Peru is the fourth largest city.

The most important was the discovery of the tomb of the Lord of Sipan, which archaeologists have concluded was a leader of more than 1600 years.
