Relatively free from smog and byzantine freeways, SAN DIEGO, curve around a graceful bay, represents the acceptable face of southern California. The second largest city in California is rich and conservative, but it is far from light and smuggling. Although it was the site of the first mission in California, the city has really took off with the arrival of the railroad in Santa Fe in the 1880s, and in terms of trade and the importance which has been long in the shadow of Los Angeles. However, during the Second World War, the U. S. Navy held in San Diego Pacific Command Center, and the army continues to dominate the local economy with tourism.
